The residence is set in the hillside, surrounded by mature orange trees and olive groves, just a few minutes walk from Sudurad port’s ancient mansion and impressive stone towers. The private pathway leading up to the house is busy with butterflies and bumblebees and you can pick the fresh rosemary, wild garlic and rocket that grows in abundance on the island.
The house consists of two parts with the newer part dating back to 1959 and contains contemporary furniture of that period. The older 19th century part of the house boasts three double bedrooms and living room area. The dining room and kitchen are in the newer part of the house. The house is fully equipped with two fridge-freezers, combined gas-electric cooker, cutlery and crockery, washing machine, TV and satellite, bedding and towels. All of the bedrooms look out onto the stunning countryside and views of the sea.
House Nikola is the perfect place to enjoy incredible views of unspoilt countryside, the sea and the other islands slipping away into the distance.
Sudurad is a small and peaceful port with fishing boats bobbing in the harbour of crystal-clear water. Ancient stone pathways lead back from the water’s edge past the 16th century towered villa to the verdant countryside beyond. A pleasant time can be had relaxing in one of the lovely cafés and strolling around the port’s side streets and alleyways. You may also like to take a stroll to the Island’s other port at Luka – just an hour’s walk away on the road which straddles the island. Luka is equally beautiful with an old church, a mansion undergoing restoration and more harbour-front cafes where you can sit and watch the sea. Luka also has a lovely beach and a short clamber up the rocks for a more impressive view.
There are other excellent gentle walking opportunities on the island through deserted villages and ruins of mansions, once home to wealthy Dubrovnik ship-ownerst Beautiful viewpoints of the mountains of the mainland and the surrounding islands, strolling through ancient olive groves and vineyards.
From Sudurad, you can visit the view-point at St Nikola Church (about 30 minutes walk away) and continue onto the old church and tower at Pakljena (40 minutes from Sudurad). There is also a beautiful bay and harbour below the church which is ideal for swimming and has a bar which is open in high season. Most people access the harbour by boat but you can reach it by foot by taking the path at the rear of the church where the white stone wall on your right continues straight forward and down the hillside into the bay.
